Bloodline: Pureblood

House: Ravenclaw
Year Graduated: 1991
Occupation: Magizoologist (specializes in Hippocampi)

Strengths: Multi-tasking, driven, determined, care of magical creatures, transfiguartion, charms, herbology, potions
Weaknesses: Ancient Runes, Arithimancy, Divination, easily frustrated, impatient, obsessive
Likes: Her family, conspiracy theories, languages, traveling, animals, swimming
Dislikes: slow people, stupid people
Overall Personality:
Astrid is a type-A personality. This means that she is constantly multi-tasking, extremely ambitious and a general over-achiever. She has a hard time relaxing and just letting things happen. She likes to control every little detail of her work and does not work well with others. Having a great thirst for knowledge means that she is constantly reading, but is always analyzing everything she reads. She always has a notebook next to her book to jot down notes. She loves to debate and discuss things afterwards, or just in general. Because she is extremely impatient she can be rather irritable about people who keep her from her business.

Astrid has a hard time making friends because she would rather be busy than having fun. Books are fun, okay? She has a hard time believing in things that are not solidified in some sort of fact, but she absolutely loves conspiracy theories and trying to prove them, it's another one of her many obsessions. This can mean that oftentimes emotions confuse her because they are not based on cold-hard fact. She has a hard time relating to overly-emotional people and is not very in-touch with her own emotions. She gets really excited when she finds someone to debate and play devil's advocate with and thrives off of intelligent conversation.

Sometimes Astrid prefers plants and animals to actual people and will disappear to exotic places for weeks at a time. While she has never had anymore more than a paper published in the naturalist world, she particularly likes working with what she refers to as 'halfies', or animals that are half one thing and half another. Her specialty is in Hippocampi, but she also works with Hippogryphs, Centaurs, Manticores, Merpeople, Chimaeras, and Griffins.

Parents: Lawrence Scamander and Petra Scamander (nee Stendahl)
Siblings: Rolf Scamander
Significant Other: None
Children: None
Pets: Nancy the Niffler, Lt. Barkley a Kneazle and Flopsy the Puffskein
Overall Family Dynamics:
Astrid is her father's daughter, but that's not to say she doesn't love her mother. She actually has an extremely close relationship with both of them, though because they are in the same field of work she finds she can speak to her father more than her mother. She adores her grandfather, Newt, who spoiled both her and her little brother and is extremely protective of Rolf.

History:
Thanks to her grandfather, Newt Scamander, the Scamander family was pretty well known in the wizarding world as he wrote the ever popular Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them. Her father, Lawrence was also a Naturalist in his own right while her mother was a healer who worked at St. Mungo's. Born two years before brother, Astrid was an extremely spoiled child. She wasn't happy when she had to share her parents with another baby.

When Astrid was 11 she was sent to Hogwarts and sorted into Ravenclaw, the perfect fit for her. She excelled in the house as she took her studies extremely seriously and absolutely loved all of the knowledge she received. She was a favorite of teachers, though a few thought she was a snobby know-it-all and treated her unfairly because of it. Still, it didn't stop her from being one of the first to raise her hand in class or ask as many questions as was needed until she understood a concept or theory.

When Rolf came to school she put on her big sister pants for him and helped him get acquainted with things, showing him around the school. OWL year was coming up and once it finally did come she barely had time for her little brother. She was that over achiever taking entirely too many classes.

She graduated with NEWTS in Care of Magical Creatures, Transfiguartion, Charms, Herbology, Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts which came out to be 6 whole NEWTS which was a new record for the Scamander family. Her parents were extremely proud. With grades like those Astrid really could have done anything, including becoming an Auror like the dreams of many of the other students at Hogwarts, but Astrid has more humble aspirations for herself. After graduating she moved back home with her parents and started applying for grants and luckily because of her name and because of her grades she was given the grant she wanted from the Magical Zoo of Greece to study Hippocampi and other similar magical creatures.

Before leaving to study in Greece she went to stay with her great-grandmother who bred Hippogriffs for a living. She spent a few months there learning everything she could from the woman and then went on her way to Greece. She spent the next five years not only studying the magical creatures at her disposal, but also learning the culture, the language, the surrounding plant and wild life. She did her best to stay involved in her family's life, but she was extremely busy and only made it home for holidays or special occasions.

At the age of 23 when her grant was all but gone she published a paper on Hippocampi that is still being discussed by her peers. She is considered to be one of the youngest magizoologists currently in the field.
